Challenge:
Laura came to me as she wanted to refresh her wardrobe, “out with the old and in with the new”, but didn’t quite know where to begin. She has found herself stuck wearing the same few outfits most days, leaving the majority of her wardrobe sitting unworn. These unworn pieces were taking up space, and making it seem as though she had a large wardrobe, when in reality, the wardrobe she actually used was much smaller.
Laura wanted some help deciding which items to say goodbye to, and to figure out how to shop more intentionally. She wanted to build out her wardrobe with new pieces, that alongside the items she already has, will create a versatile wardrobe that she can mix and match for work and for everyday.
Solution:
Laura and I got together at her home to start working through her closet edit. We organized her clothing by category (jeans, trousers, t-shirts, etc. ), and went through each category piece by piece. We decided which items to keep, which to consign, and which to donate, and discussed how to tell when an article of clothing has reached it’s end. As much as we may love an item and hate to see it go, if it is stained, has holes, or lots of pilling and fading, it is time to part ways. We made our way through all of her clothing and by the end we had four bags of clothes to donate, and one to consign. After that I put all the clothing we chose to keep back into her closet folded and organized.
That weekend we went on our shopping day. We decided that based on Laura’s style, needs, and budget, that we would have lots of luck at 27 Boutique, one of my favourites in Calgary. I went ahead and set up a dressing room full of outfits for her, and then she met me there and it was ready to give them a try! We had a great shopping day, and she found lots of great items to work into her wardrobe.
Result:
For the final stop of the Wardrobe Revival, I met Laura back at her house for Outfit Building. We mixed and matched her new clothes with her existing wardrobe to create a bunch of amazing outfits that she can wear casually, to work, or both. We took some photos that she was kind enough to let me share below. She finished the experience with a renewed wardrobe full of items she will actually wear, space in her closet so it doesn’t look overstuffed and cluttered, and a refreshed and organized closet.
Overall she left feeling ‘lighter and inspired’, and we had such a great time together breathing new life into her wardrobe.
